This elegant scarf is hand made from the silk of a vintage Japanese kimono.
The black silk is a soft rinzu with a woven pattern of stylised vine leaves called karasuka, which is very old and came originally from China.
Black (kuro) is a popular and traditional colour for kimono and denotes, mystery, night and anger. Associated with dignity and formality, black is considered an appropriate colour for formal Kimono bearing the family crest.
The silk fringe is also vintage and has been dyed and hand knotted to match.
