Feather trimmed redblack This fabulous scarf is made from the silk of a Japanese Kimono.

It is a type of silk called Ro because of it’s translucent quality but this silk also has a rich shiny weave of checks or plaid, which can be worn any season.

The colour is a deeply glossy red that is blackened, called Enjiro. It originated from the colour of ancient Chinese cosmetic crimson and has been known as a ‘greasy colour’ because of this association.   It came to be commonly used as a dye from about the middle of Meiji period when chemical dyes spread.

The feather trim is not Japanese and is contemporary.
