This stunning scarf/shawl has been hand made from the silk of a vintage Japanese Kimono.
The bright colours suggest it was once part of a Furisode Kimono, a type worn by young unmarried women with long swaying sleeves.
The pattern is both woven and hand painted and depicts imaginary flowers and vines (Karabana).
The colour is Su Rin, a bright yellow orange, and originates in part from a scarlet dye and it is classified as a scarlet colour.
The beaded fringe is contemporary.
