Autumn Turtle dovesThis wall-hanging is made from Chirimen silk which is woven with twisted thread and has a lovely a lovely quality and drape.

The image is hand-dyed and shows two oriental turtle doves (hato) in a maple tree with leaves that are changing colour (Momiji).

Hato are symbols of marital fidelity, fertility and the skyward flight of the soul after death. Also filial piety, as it is said to perch ‘three branches lower than its senior.’ They are often shown in pairs with turning Autumn leaves.

The cord is also vintage silk and is an Obijime. This decorative cord holds a kimono together around the waist.
